Greater Worcester Priority Climate Action Plan is Submitted!

On March 1, 2024, CMRPC staff submitted the Greater Worcester Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) to the EPA as part of the CPRG. This plan is the culmination of community engagement events and surveys, discussion with stakeholders, and feedback from subject matter experts.

The PCAP sets out 20 priority strategies for short term efforts to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in the Greater Worcester Region, a

region that covers all of Worcester County, Windham County Connecticut, and several surrounding communities. Some of the highest priorities in the plan include waste reduction efforts through composting, providing assistance to homeowners and renters for weatherization services, expanding fare-free public transit services, and expanding solar on suitable sites (capped landfills, brownfields, rooftops, etc.,).

This plan is part of a larger four-year planning process, and next steps include an implementation grant application to bring some of the strategies to life and a comprehensive climate action plan due Summer 2025 that looks at long-term strategies for reducing air pollution and GHG emissions out to 2050 and beyond. The full plan is available on the Resources page, or you can click the button below.
